Despite near 50/50 representation between men and women in the total workforce at Fair360 Top 50 companies in 2023, women in leadership roles are noticeably underrepresented.
Barriers to promotion and a high turnover rate represent a broken career ladder that limits the opportunities for women in leadership. The inequity is present in the broader corporate landscape and with companies with explicit commitments to workplace fairness.
An Ineffective Leadership Pipeline
Although women are 49% of the workforce at Top 50 companies, they held just 31% of Level 1 management in 2023, which includes CEOs and their direct reports. For Level 2 management positions, that number was 38%. At Level 3 management, it was 41%.
