Attracting and retaining Latinx talent is a matter of social responsibility and a strategic advantage that companies can use to drive innovation, creativity and overall business success.

Latinx professionals contribute to the workforce in many significant ways, including providing cultural insights, bilingual skills, a strong work ethic and a commitment to family and community. To harness these valuable qualities, organizations must proactively attract and retain Latinx talent.

In this session, panelists discussed the importance of fostering an inclusive culture for Latinx employees and ways to achieve fairness.

Highlights From the Session

“We bring amazing talent, superpowers like resilience, superpowers like learning agility, the different cultural elements. There’s so much that we bring because of our heritage of bringing. There may be things that we do differently, but that doesn’t mean that it’s a bad thing. You don’t have to coach us to be like other people. No, coach us to be the best of ourselves. So I think education is really important. And understanding that our journeys is just not one box.” — Jennifer Lopez-Reed, Associate, VP, Global Talent Acquisition at Eli Lilly and Company (No. 5 on the Fair360 2023 Top 50 Companies for Diversity list)

“You do have to have top down buy-in. Leaders need to model what it is they want their employees to emulate. I do think one of the things that’s really important as leaders is that you are committed to being a learner. Certainly, leaders get to their position within an organization because they’ve proven their leadership competency in a number of ways through demonstrated leadership skill sets, and also because they have been able to unlock the power of the people that work for them and work with them. What’s critical in leaders is their commitment to being students of those employees and of their individual needs and contributions.” — Liz Lund, Director of the Foundation, Medtronic (No. 2 on the 2023 Top 50 Companies for Diversity list)
