Myth Busters: All People with Disabilities Who Use Wheelchairs Are Chronically Ill

There’s a lot of misinformation circling about people with disabilities (PwD). As part of our Myth Busters series with the National Organization on Disability (NOD), we’re debunking myths about PwD in recognition of National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) in October.

In this video, Fair360 spoke with Margaret Ling, Senior Program Manager of Workforce Solutions at NOD, and Felicia Nurmsen, Managing Director of Workforce Solutions at NOD. Ling and Nurmsen explained why it is not true that people in wheelchairs are chronically ill.

“There are a variety of reasons we use wheelchairs that are not related to chronic illness,” Nurmsen said. “We have limited strength, we might have limited mobility and the wheelchair is simply just a tool to help us to get around.”
