Fair360 is thrilled to share our Cultural Connection Calendar: A Guide for Multicultural Awareness in the Workplace. This resource helps your organization increase awareness of cultural and religious holidays, supporting a workplace where employees feel valued, understood and included.
We encourage you to use this calendar in the following ways:
- Post the calendar in a central location and share it with your employees via email, in print or through
your intranet along with a message underscoring your organization’s goal of inclusivity. - Consider how to observe the cultural events on the calendar – and think about any that should be added – based on your organization’s employees and customers/constituents.
- Involve key leaders and stakeholders.
- Conduct an employee survey.
- Partner with Employee Resource Groups (ERGs).
- Create a planning committee including employees representing a span of cultures and religions.
- Create opportunities to recognize cultural events.
- Offer educational workshops focused on the historical and cultural significance of the holiday.
- Host celebrations/observances that include employees and/or guest speakers sharing their traditions.
- Organize food tastings featuring traditional dishes.
- Arrange service opportunities in your community.
- Coordinate virtual learning resources covering the history and traditions of the holiday.
- Provide cultural sensitivity training.
- Acknowledge holidays in team meetings.
- Allow attendance to be optional while encouraging employee participation in programs/events.
- Measure and evaluate the impact of programming with key performance indicators (KPIs) including
attendance, employee engagement and testimonials; adjust as needed. Also link programming to
employee engagement scores and retention in your organization’s annual survey if applicable.
